Optimizing performance of Windows 7

My performance with Windows 7 seems really random. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's so low flash games on Facebook lag. I've got 1.87 GB of usable RAM, with the 32 bit version of Home Premium, and I disabled all the aero options. Are there any other settings I can change or things I can do to improve my performance both in and out of WoW specifically?

I have an AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual core processor, and even with aero turned off, there are times where both processors are maxed out when I only have one Firefox window open with one tab.

Nothing huh? I know Windows 7 is a new OS, but quite a few of you have been using the RC for months, so I figured someone might know.

I know nothing about Windows 7, but I do know that flash games are typically iffy in the way they'll run. It's pretty much why I avoid flash gaming. With only 1.87 GB of useable RAM, it sounds like you're sharing some with your video memory. Your best bet would probably be to upgrade to a stand alone vid card and see what happens from there.

I have a AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-64 2.2Ghz, an integrated fail card, and 4g of ram. I have absolutely no problem running Windows 7.

Sounds to me like you have something wrong with your computer. Smiley: confused That or the 2g of ram really makes a huge difference.. but you say your processor is spiking up to 100% not your ram..

Unfortunately my pc is a laptop, which I cannot upgrade the video card on. It's also got the max amount of RAM possible too.

Do you play WoW or any other type of PC game Deadgye? As a student I use my laptop for internet browsing and word processing, but I also play WoW on a nearly daily basis and that's mostly what I would like to optimize my performance for. The processors don't always act up during flash games, sometimes it's just a regular web page and they're maxed out. This is happening less now that I disabled the aero features though.

I used to play ffxi on it when I still had vista, that would give me some problems in crowded areas if I wasn't plugged in. No experience with WoW on this laptop though. Right now I usually just use it for internet browsing and aim.

Are you playing the Flash games on Firefox?

Firefox still has major lag and stability issues with Windows 7. It's an issue with the browser, not the OS.

No, the laptop is 2.5 years old. I bought it in June of 2006, which was a few months after Vista was released. I tried to get Dell to sell me a laptop with XP, but they'd only do so on refurbished systems. Windows 7 has so far been an improvement on Vista for the most part, performance wise.

Yeah, that's it then. So if I use Internet Explorer the lag with the flash games will at least go away? It's not that big of a deal to me to be honest, I care more about my WoW performance which still seems to be pretty random. That might have been due to me having Firefox windows open though, I'll have to keep a better eye out on that and see if that's what it was.

Yeah Firefox windows are causing a performance hit on FFXI too, because of a still unpatched memory leak from Firefox, among other things. It's not a huge deal if you're running 4-8 gigs of RAM like some people do on their gaming systems, but on weaker machines it can have an impact.
