Guild Wars 2's Permanent Price Cut

ArenaNet wants you to journey to Tyria and the company thinks that now is the ideal time.

There have been a barrage of content updates recently that show no sign of slowing down. The last three patches have seen a lot of new changes to give new things for players to do and have arrived in brisk two week intervals.

Now Guild Wars 2 is also getting a 10 dollar price cut, making the standard Digital Edition available for $49.99 and the Deluxe Edition for $69.99.

Is a 10 dollar difference enough to make you want to buy the game if you haven't before? Let us know below.

I'll be speaking to Colin Johanson about the recent ramping up of content and the price change later today so keep your eyes peeled for more Guild Wars 2 news.

Into the Dragons' Den

In most MMOs I’ve played, the gallant hero is asked by a desperate kingdom to slay the wicked dragon. Not so for upcoming MMO Dragon’s Prophet. In this latest free-to-play creation from Runewaker and published by Sony Online Entertainment, you get the chance to tame, train and ride dragons of your very own.

For all those eagerly anticipating raising a clutch of magical reptiles, the good news is that open beta starts in North America on May 30. Founders with VIP access will get a 24 hour head start, giving them early access into the world of Auratia. Closed Beta testers will also be pleased to know that the NDA has been lifted from today, freeing them to share their tales of daring draconic deeds with friends.

During the weekend I dived back in, mainly to see how development had progressed since my first look last month. Joined by ZAM regular Chris Rainey, we livestreamed our progress (part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4) from character creation to the giddy heights of level 20. As an extra bonus, I’ll be streaming a special session on ZAM's Twitch.TV channel from 4pm Pacific on Thursday May 23, where I’ll be joined by senior producer Todd Carson to answer all your Dragon’s Prophet questions.

Downtime - Tuesday, May 21, 2013

All U.S. servers will come down on Tuesday, May 21, at 7:00 am Pacific Time for an update. The expected downtime is one hour. EU servers will come down on Wednesday, May 22, at 5:00 am London Time, with an estimated downtime of two hours.

The full patch notes are available below.

Skara is Scraping the Surface of Kickstarter

Newly added to Kickstarter, 8 Bit StudiosSkara, is a new MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), that looks to combine some of our favorite things about all gaming genres and mesh them into an arena game like no other.  Skara’s own creators describe the game by saying “Imagine an experience with the action of Street Fighter inside a story and land like World of Warcraft, all blended into a fast-paced Call of Duty style arena.”  From watching the video, I can get a feel for what they mean by that.  The game really has a solid, fantasy basis to work off of.  The speed at which the player’s character moves through the world is similar to that which might be found in a game such as Call of Duty.  The Street Fighter comment has more to do with their directional combat, but I’ll get to that shortly.

Tamriel Talk 5: Exploration and Gathering

Last week, ZeniMax’s Paul Sage showed off what exploring and gathering would be like in The Elder Scrolls Online. Just like in the single-player Elder Scrolls games, you can ransack crates, barrels, and other containers in search of various bits and bobs.

Guild Wars 2: Last Stand at Southsun

So just how long do you expect to wait for new content in an MMO?

Three months or so has often been the average. A month maybe in some cases, if you're lucky.

Apparently ArenaNet finds this cycle just far too tiresome, as the company has announced another update that adheres to the two week cycle established in the previous The Secret of Southsun patch.

Marvel Heroes: Doomed!

As Marvel Heroes approaches its June 4 launch, Gazillion has released the first in a series of video comics aimed at fleshing out the story behind the game.

Plotted by Brian Michael Bendis, the action of Marvel Heroes propels you through an overarching conflict with the malevolent master of Latveria, Victor Von Doom.

Neverwinter: Exploiters Force Rollback

It's been a tough weekend for the Neverwinter team.

A number of unscrupulous players took advantage of an in-game bug to wantonly duplicate massive quantities of the Astral Diamond currency.

Ragnarok II wraps up a $3000 prize-pool event.

Are you eager to win some real world loot? If you've played Ragnarok II this weekend you might have the chance to do just that. This past Friday, May 17th, Ragnarok II started spreading the wealth by entering all active players into a $3000 prize-pool "Attendance is Fun" event!

WildStar: Dissecting Closed Beta 2

Screenshot

How do you beat the beta leakers and NDA breakers at their own game? According to the folks at Carbine it’s simple – release the patch notes before they do. Timed to coincide with the start of WildStar's Closed Beta Test 2, the team is being incredibly open about what the new wave of testers can look forward to.

In a mammoth WildStar Wednesday update fans can now dig into a stack of tradeskill information, theorycraft over the latest class changes and delve into new dungeon and battleground information. Milestone 31 contains over nineteen pages of patch notes (you can read them in full on the official site) covering every aspect of the game, from the new Mentoring and Rallying systems to the many UI enhancements.
